Global SITREP A9-17: The Syrian Situation Revisited

Russian SS-26 "Stone" Ballistic Missile Launchers at Hmeimim Air Base, Syria
16 February 2017: This month one year ago Eschatology Today reported in Global SITREP A8-16 about the Russian deployment of Iskander (NATO Name: SS-26 "Stone") short-range ballistic missile systems into Syria. The deployment of these ballistic missile systems was to Hmeimim Air Base in coastal Latakia province.

What was not reported at that time were three important facts which were unknown at that time. One, the Iskander SS-26 "Stone" is a nuclear-capable ballistic missile. Two, the Russian government made a deal with the Syrian government which allows it to deploy anywhere into the territory of the Syrian Arab Republic any weaponry, ammunition (including nuclear), or materials necessary for the security of its military forces. And Three, the Hmeimim Air Base will be operated by the Russian Air Force under the terms of a 49-year lease, and the Russian naval base at Tartus will be expanded and modernized under another similar lease.

What is also clear at this time is that the Iskander ballistic missiles are not in Syria as static displays intended to impress, but have been put to use in a conventional warhead (most likely cluster munitions) configuration against identified targets of the Islamic State (IS) in either Dier Ez-Zor and/or Raqqa. According to Israel Space Imaging (ISI) reconnaissance imagery (click on the image above to zoom in) Iskander missiles were launched against these IS targets in December 2016 and late January 2017. There will likely be additional launches against important IS targets.

What does all this mean in terms of the prophetic content of Isaiah 17 and Jeremiah 49:23-27?

I believe it means, as discussed previously on this blog, that both of these near-term fulfillment prophecies indicate some as yet unknown catastrophe will have to occur to nullify the current Russian military presence in Syria. The prophecy of Ezekiel 38:15 tells us this about the invaders: "you will come from your place out of the far north." The "far north" strongly indicates the invaders will not be coming from Israel's next door neighbor Syria. A 49-year lease means that the Russian military presence will continue to 2064 at the minimum. Isaiah 17:1-3 foretells of the demise of the city Damascus as well as the ruling kingdom and remnant of Syria ('Aram). These prophecies are true, therefore some great series of events must take place to eradicate the present paradigm in Syria.

  1. Sean,

My guess at this point is that Psalm 83 is going to have a grand finale after 70 years of slow burn... Israel is going to get wronged and release the fury. The Russians don't have the forces in Syria to contend with Israel at full rage.

Thus living in peace and no walls, regaining full promised land.

Then Russia will have reason to come down "to plunder".

    My prognostication...

  2. Ken, I agree and have been saying this on Eschatology Today for some time now, that 2017-2018 and Israel's 70th year are going to be critical in what follows in the high-speed run into the 70th Week.

  5. Sean,

Just received a message from a close friend that Hezbollah leader has threatened Israel with a strike against the Dimona facility with the intention of destroying it completely by way of rocket attacks!

They are feeling very sure of their selves due to the recent court order shutting down the ammonia plant in Haifa and feeling very cocky about their ability! I think Hezbollah believes the mess taking place in the USA will make it easier for the hijinks of the Israel threat to go unheeded.

Or maybe I just need to go to bed and leave this all to our Abba F a the who never slumbers nor sleeps! In fact, I am closing and turning in now.

    GOOD NIGHT ALL AND
    SHALOM

  6. Yes, on Thursday Nasrallah gave a particularly cocky and aggressive speech to mark "Martyred Leaders Day" and threatened the Dimona reactor for the first time.

That also drew a response from Yisrael Katz, Israel's Minister of Intelligence, who said "If Nasrallah dares to fire at the Israel homefront or at its national infrastructure, all of Lebanon will be hit."

  7. Sean,

I loved your comment here: "The prophetic fact to which Nasrallah is completely ignorant of is that he lives on borrowed time in a land which will soon belong to Israel." Right on the button and really gave my spirits a boost.

Called my attention to something that has always intrigued me but daily it is becoming very clear. Which is, we all know that Ps. 83 has to come about to fulfillment, along with Is. 17 but do they come together simultaneously or in stages, in your opinion. I know this has been discussed in previous comments here but they keep pestering me.

We have to keep our wits about us and right now all I want to do is get warm and snooze a little.

    1. GG5,

I've long been of the view that Psalm 83 has been in progress since 1948. Before it is totally fulfilled Isaiah 17 comes to fulfillment in the current interlude. I believe this is how it all fits together because neither Aram Syria or Damascus are specified in Psalm 83.

(For that matter, neither is Persia, which at present is a big player in Lebanon and Syria - hint, hint).

Iraq is mentioned in Psalm 83 as Assur. Assur of ancient times (circa 1000 BC whan Asaph gave this prophecy) is the Sunni heartland of Iraq today.

  8. Sean,

I didn't even think about Persia not being mentioned in Ps. 83 but you are right on, like always. God does beautiful espionage mysteries and there are so many pieces to the whole picture that it begins to feel like one of those 10,000 piece jigsaw puzzles that I love.

I agree with you that Ps. 83 is still in progress and as you have stated before, will continue until the end of the assignment as Abba has said. But the one element that I keep leaving out is Iraq and yet I know the prophecies regarding Babylon. In fact then Mosul was being taken over by Isis and destroying the ancient historical sites I thought about Babel and Nimrod history every time the tv panned to the area. I don't know why but it just was always there. Then I would start asking Abba if Persia and especially Elam would be taken out first which would put one of the hooks in Gog's jaw. Nothing ever came of it but I still wonder. However, I do think that there will be a raw nerve in Gog's makeup to think that he can overtake Israel without any repercussions coming from the rest of the world or why else would that question be asked so noncommittally "do you come to take a plunder?".

I have to get to bed because tomorrow is Sunday School, bible study and I want to be totally rested and ready for God's Presence to fill our fellowship in a major way.

SHALOM and until we hear that glorious SHOUT OUT,
