Global SITREP C9-14: ISIS Takes Mosul, Baiji and Tikrit in Iraq

UPDATE 13 June 2014: Exactly as forecast on Eschatology Today on 11 June, Iranian forces have intervened in Iraq in an attempt to bring to a quick halt the march of Sunni Al Qaeda- ISIS jihadists on the Shi'a strongholds in eastern Iraq. The Wall Street Journal reported in today's edition that two battalions of Iran's IRGC Qods Force along with the IRGC commander, General Qassem Suleimani. General Suleimani has apparently taken operational control of Iraqi defenses around Baghdad. The presence of Iranian Shi'a troops fighting alongside Iraqi Shi'a troops against Sunni Iraqi's on Iraqi soil will undoubtedly have the effect of throwing high-octane gasoline on an already raging inferno. This war has now entered a completely new paradigm far beyond anything seen previously on the Syrian Sunni versus Shi'a front lines. More barrel bombs and even chemical warfare are almost certain to be central to the coming escalation.

12 June 2014: Al Qaeda's ISIS is now at a full gallop in what it calls "Operation Entering the Gates."  The "Gates" they intend to enter are those of Baghdad. As detailed below they have acquired as spoils of war in direct confrontation with the Iraqi Army more than enough resources to accomplish their mission. The Iraqi Army, armed with US-made M1A1 Main Battle Tanks, MRAP armored personnel carriers plus fixed and rotary-wing combat aircraft was summarily routed and brushed aside after just four days of contact with massed and well coordinated ISIS forces.

On the battlefield west of Mosul, a feint against the main Iraqi line was followed by a blitz on the Iraqi rear to the east of Mosul which tore open the Iraqi defenses and sent what remained of the defenders fleeing for their very lives. The ISIS field commander for this operation is the very stealthy jihadist known by the nom de guerre "Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi," but whose real name is Ibrahim Awwad Ibrahim Ali al-Badri. He may well prove to be the next Osama bin Laden of Islamic jihadism.

ISIS forces have not stopped their advance, but actually increased their pace of combat operations and are streaming southward towards Baghdad in two primary columns, and driving a thoroughly defeated Iraqi army before them. The Baghdad government of President Nouri al-Maliki now has nowhere else to turn but to his patrons in Tehran as the Obama Administration has effectively thrown his former Iraqi allies under the bus in favor of the AQ ISIS jihadists. Is this the price to be paid in Obama's neck-breaking gambit to achieve a suicidal nuclear deal with Tehran? Sure seems that way.

11 June 2014: Within 24 hours of taking Mosul the forces of ISIS have now taken Baiji (pop. 200,000) and Tikrit (pop. 260,000 and famous as the home of the late dictator Saddam Hussein) in Saladin Province. In Baiji these Sunni jihadists have taken control of Iraq's largest oil refinery and the heavily industrialized heartland of Iraq. The large power plant in Baiji is an electrical lifeline to Baghdad. Saladin Province is the very heart of ancient Assur. In addition, Al Qaeda's ISIS also took possession of more than $425 Million dollars of cold, hard cash from the Central Bank in Mosul, not to mention an entire division's worth of armored vehicles and munitions of every description.

Without immediate direct military intervention from the Shi'a Islamic Republic of Iran (which I believe is imminent) it's puppet regime in Baghdad and what is left of Iraq are living on borrowed time. The hasty, ill-advised and premature departure of American and Coalition forces in Iraq (ordered by Commander-In-Chief Barack Hussein Obama), the last of which departed just two and one-half years ago, have made this stunning victory by Al Qaeda's ISIS possible and made a extremely wasteful mockery of the objectives America and its allies fought for in Operation Iraqi Freedom.

10 June 2014: Directly above at the top of this continuing post is a graphic image published on this date by DEBKAfile. This image gets to the heart once again of what I have been discussing for some time now about the modern-day Assur as spoken of by the prophet Asaph in Psalm 83 verse 8. This map is showing us at this late hour the actual territory (shaded as Islamic green) of the tenth nation mentioned in the Psalm 83 enemy confederation and which is directly linked to Jordan (i.e. "the children of Lot").

As essential background data I urge you to re-visit these previous Eschatology Today posts, and which also contain links to other posts on this blog dealing with the same subject.

Psalm 83 Verse 8: Assur - Syria or Iraq?

Global SITREP B11-13: Psalm 83 and AQ in Iraq

For illustrative and comparative purposes consider the above green shaded part of the image with the two lighter pink shaded areas of the image below.  Even though these two images are on different scales, they do effectively illustrate us how the terrorist non-state known as the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, or ISIS, occupies the exact same territory today as did Assur circa 1000 BC when Asaph was inspired to compose Psalm 83.

Again, we watch current events which have every probability of becoming literally fulfilled prophecy before our witnessing eyes, and in this case what we are talking about is a prophecy which is simultaneously 3,000 years old but also as current as today's news.

  1. Sean,

Regarding the fighting in Iraq and Syria the last few years, is there even a side we are supposed to be rooting for?

A least bad option, if you will?

  2. Catherine,

Yes indeed; I think the literal fulfillment of 2,000 to 3,000-year old Bible prophecy is always 'big time' interesting!!!

In fact, I think there is pretty much nothing going on in the world today which is not in some manner related to the fulfillment of 70th Week prophecy.

I think this is all on a very short but fast burning fuse now.

  3. Mark,

Well, based upon the Lord's infallible prophetic word, there is only one winner for us to support in any Middle East conflict: Israel.

I believe the Lord has set the false prophet believing and false god worshiping muslims against each other for His sovereign purpose, and I believe that purpose is directly related to the literal fulfillment of prophecy.

Here's a profound thing to think about.

How many times do we read in the Bible that this or that thing occurred so that a prophecy might be fulfilled?

Read Matthew 2:23 and Matthew 4:12-14 for specific examples.

Things directly related prophetic fulfillment are occurring right now in the same manner as they did 30 years prior or immediately prior to the start of Jesus. ministry.

  4. It appears BHO has met one of his longterm 'presidential' objectives - to support the ascendency of Al Queda/Taliban throughout the muslim [and western]world.

Too bad BHO and Jarrett and Assoc. don't relize they are fulfilling bible based prophecy. Amazing how God used their wicked hearts to bring about His prophetic objectives!

  5. Sean,

Here we are watching Iraq crumble with every 24 hour news cycle. Perhaps this is what Obama and the Democrats wanted all along?

Meanwhile, I was reminded how back in July 2009 Obama released 5 leading Iranian commanders (the Irbil Five).

I've completely lost track now of the number of traitorous acts by this lawless administration.

  6. This is crazy! I mean we are really seeing the prep to Biblical prophecy right before our eyes!

The false prophet prepping the world for war on anyone who refuses to pervert the word of God!

  7. I am preparing something to post on the main page about these current events with respect to eschatology.

However, what I will post may not be exactly what some folks have been conditioned (i.e. taught) to believe about how several specific Bible prophecies will come to their fulfillment.

One thing is for sure... and this a not-so-subtle hint of where I am going with what I will soon post... what many very well-known Bible prophecy teachers wrote about these same prophecies just ten years ago -- or less -- has now been fairly well shredded into oblivion by these very real-time events in Iraq (and in Syria).

What I am seeing as a potential reality may even shock some people.

  8. Sean:
Very interesting in the prophecy time today you mention Matthew 4:12-15.
    found this.
    http://www.patheos.com/blogs/markshea/2014/01/land-of-zebulun-land-of-naphtali-galilee-of-the-gentiles.html

Zebulun and Naphtali were the very first tribes of the northern kingdom of Israel deported by the Assyrians 700 years before Matthew wrote. It has been an extremely long time since that region was called the area of Zebulun and Naphtali. So to get the hang of how odd it is that Matthew describes the area in that way, imagine a modern-day writer referring to Paris as being in the “territory of the Franks”. We immediately grasp that Matthew is trying to get us to think historically.

  9. I am waiting for you next post Sean. I have reading again the Psalms 83 book you sent me a year ago by Bill Salus. Always inspired by this reading.
One can see the ancient hatred still be perpetuated today thru the descendants of Ishmael and Essau.

  10. Thanks for all your hard work searching the Scriptures Sean,

It appears Israel is about to gain alot of land and their attackers are going to lose the battle and their belief in allah. I hope their falling away causes some of the muslim countries to allow the true message of Jesus to be preached
Even though we weren`t here at the first coming of Jesus. We are fortunate to be here for His return. 14 years or less and counting...
    keep looking up!

"14 years or less and counting..."

    For what?

  12. Sean,

Judging by your updates, are we just counting the days now before America abandons the largest and most expensive embassy ever built?

14 years or less and counting..."

Until the 80 year period from Israel`s rebirth as a nation to Jesus rightfully takes his place as King of this earth. Hopeful thinking on my part.

  15. Ken,

    I do too, always have.

But my focus has been one of what were Assur's territorial holdings when Asaph wrote Psalm 83 (circa 1000 BC - David's Kingdom and/or Solomon's Kingdom).

This was about the time when Assur absorbed the Mitanni kingdom, so Assur's territory went from a map looking like this:

    MAP 1

to a map looking like this:

    MAP 2

Map 2 is nearly identical to the territory that AQ ISIS holds at present in both present day eastern Syria and northern Iraq.

  16. Yes, about those 14 years...

1948 plus the 80 years of a generation of strength (Psalm 90:10) bring us to the year 2028.

The reference here is Jesus' prophetic declaration in the Olivet Discourse: (Matthew 24:32-35)

"“Now learn this parable from the fig tree: When its branch has already become tender and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near. So you also, when you see all these things, know that it is near—at the doors! Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all these things take place. Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away."

By "So when you see all these things take place" Jesus mean the specific signs he gave to the Apostles in the beginning of the discourse to answer their specific question: "what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?"

Has the 70 to 80-year generation (which began in 1948 with the fulfillment of Isaiah's prophecy about Israel being born in a single day Isaiah 66:8) been witness to everything Jesus gave as signs?

    No doubt about it IMHO.

  17. BTW... i am still working on the new post, but it's not quite ready yet. The Lord leads...

Brother...you posted: 1948 plus the 80 years of a generation of strength (Psalm 90:10) bring us to the year 2028.

Just so I can get it straight...are you and jmoll106 saying that that could be a time frame for the Rapture? Just asking.

    God Bless!

  19. VP ORD,

I am repeating Jesus' words within the "Parable of the Fig Tree (i.e. Israel's rebirth)" that the generation witnessing all of the signs He gave to the original twelve apostles, that those signs would all occur within that generation's lifetime on this earth.

This very specific and multi-faceted statement sets the stage for what Jesus said next (Matthew 24:36-44) about no one but the Father knowing the day or the hour of this coming event, yet Jesus then specifically likened that event to the time when Noah entered the ark and the flood that took all the rest of humanity away to how His coming again will be.

Did Noah know the flood was coming? Yes!

Did Noah know the exact day and hour when the flood would occur?

    No!

Then what does Matthew recount Jesus as saying?

"Then two men will be in the field: one will be taken and the other left. Two women will be grinding at the mill: one will be taken and the other left. Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming."

Does Jesus directly link the unknown time of His return to the taking of specific human beings, male and female, from the earth?

Jesus gives us here a very prophetic instruction; I happen to believe it is an instruction for the generation alive today. We are witnessing all of the signs He gave, and they are increasing with frequency and severity (as birth pangs).

This generation is now in the 66th year of an 80 year generation of strength, of which a mere 14 years total remain, and within which He will come like a thief in the night. Any moment.

    Marana'tha!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Within that 14 years remaining is when the second coming will take place meaning the harpadzo will likely take place within the next 7 years. Right?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Yup, that's what I believe, and it's the topic of the next SITREP... with a twist.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I think that as prophecy unfolds in the coming months and years, we're going to be seeing a lot more twists. The fact is that Daniel prophesied that very thing. Prophecy will be unsealed at the time of the end. Psalm 83, Jeremiah 49 and a number of others just quite recently came to light.
