UPDATED 8 December 2024: The above clickable (enlargeable) map is for those who would like a graphic point of reference for provinces (governorates) and their capitals and the locations of important cites. The chosen title for this SITREP, "Catastrophic Success" comes from a decade ago when many in the government feared a radical Islamist (ISIS) takeover of the whole of Syria. Eschatology Today accepts this terminology as being appropriate for the current situation in Syria.
ANNOUNCEMENT:
For those who are new here or just arriving after searching out a website like this (yes, I do see you accessing this site), Eschatology Today is first and foremost a blog about God-breathed prophecy in the Holy Scriptures. The sovereign will of God Almighty has been expressed through His prophets of ancient Israel; He has known what will come to pass on this earth since before time began as He has always existed outside of time and space as humanity can understand those concepts.
Hence, the LORD spoke of future events through the prophets He selected; He did so for the purpose the living in those days would have understanding by seeking out His Word. To those who seek He provides understanding as necessary through His Spirit. For questions that begin with, "Will this or that happen..." seek His inerrant counsel on the issue as Jesus our Messiah (Christ) taught us, and that is go into a private place and ask of Him directly the question you may have. My personal suggestion for those who earnestly are seeking Him, ask Him to prove to you that He is what He has always said He is. He is the "I AM that I AM." (In Hebrew this is written as YHWH." Be ready for His response - it will change your life FOREVER and in ways that will leave no doubt about His love for you personally. There is no better time for this as we are living in the days of the so-called "end times." The "end times are simply those days, months and years prior to the physical Second Coming of Jesus Christ to establish the His Millennial Kingdom on this Earth.
The Syrian Ba'athist regime of Bashar al-Assad that arose in a coup d'etat led by his father Hafez al-Assad is no more. Remnants of the regime will fade into history over the coming days, weeks or months, as the fractious conglomeration of rebellious militias, primarily Sunni, begin to assert control over the areas they currently hold. They may begin to war amongst themselves or strike out at other enemies such as Shi'a militias which are not Syrian but foreigners. They may move against Russian controlled territory in the governorates of Tartous and Latakia. Thay may, as Islamist all, move against Israel on the Golan. Whatever does actually take place going forward has been foretold primarily be the prophet Isaiah (Chapter 17) and the prophet Jeremiah (Chapter 49). These things are what will take place in the near-term. Eschatology Today will track these events as the LORD directs based upon His revealed word in Scripture.

The IDF has occupied the area on this map shaded in yellow. With the collapse of the Syrian regime the 1974 Disengagement of Forces agreement (DOF) became null and void. Israel increased in land area today.
It has long been said that World War IV (WWIV) would begin in the Middle East. Yes, WWIV, because WWIII was fought and won, it was the so-called "Cold War" of 1944-1991.
WWIV began on October 7, 2023 and it continues to this very minute and will continue for some time to come. WWIV will likely conclude, if that's the correct terminology, with Ezekiel 38-39, which heralds the start of the 70th Week of Years, a/k/a the Thlipsis and Megas Thlipsis (Tribulation and Great Tribulation). You all are well aware of how this ends, and for the Bride of Christ it's with the shout "COME UP HITHER!"
9 December 2024: The Bottom Line - The al-Assad regime is gone but the civil war in Syria has not ended. There has not been a legitimate transfer of political power which realistically keeps Syria a powderkeg with a lit fuse.
An amalgamation of insurgent militias have control of Syria's major cities in most of western Syria. These insurgents have differing ideological views.
Some, possibly a majority, are Sunni jihadists.
Some are scattered remnants of ISIS.
Some are north Syrian tribesmen who are loyal to Erdogan's Turkiye.
Some are Kurds who control a third of Syria in the regions east of the Euphrates River and are backed by the U.S.-led military coalition.
Some are southern Syrian tribesmen also backed by the U.S.-led military coalition centered in Al-Tanf on the Jordan and Iraq border region, and who recently extended their control northward to Palmyra.
Some are Arab Syrians from the southern Dara'a region who are mixed with local Druse populations.
And then there are the Alawi, cousins of Shi'a Islam in Tartus and Latakia on the Syrian coastline who until a day ago had been dominant over the rest of Sunni Arab Syria via the al-Assad regime.
Added to this mix are foreign military groups such as the IRGC-QF advisors and technical support from Iran, the Shi'a Iraqi PMU militia formations and the Shi'a Fatemiyoun militia from Afghanistan and Pakistan, as well as isolated Russian troops in several makeshift encampments scattered across the rest of Syria west of the Euphrates River.
All of this lies right across the northern border of Israel.
And the prophecies of Isaiah 17 and Jeremiah 49;23-27 have not come to complete fulfillment, which is something global media would never mention.
It's not over in Syria yet, not by a longshot.
OPERATION "BASHAN ARROW"
UPDATE 11 December 2024: In the elapsed time since the last update (about 48 hours) Israel's land, sea and air forces have attacked and destroyed more than 250 military bases, depots, facilities, grounded aircraft (fixed and rotary wing), missile batteries, AA gun emplacements, tanks and armored vehicles. You name it as a military asset of the former regime and the Israeli Air Force has destroyed it. This continuing IDF action, known as Operation Bashan Arrow, is unprecedented in the past 100-year history of modern warfare.
And it has been a virtual turkey shoot because since the former regime's troops abandoned their posts there has been ZERO air defense over Syria or any kind of defense against Israel's actions. Zip, nada, nothing. Russian and Iranian forces are of no help, they can't fly or are hunkered down in survival mode and looking for a way out. The U.S. and Turkey have hit select targets but not nearly on the scale that Israel has.
One has to wonder how the victorious Sunni-led insurgency is viewing the annihilation of their expected war booty. There's not much left except for burnt and charred scrap metal.
UPDATE 14 December 2024: The image above captured one of seventeen IAF air strikes on Friday night directed at Iranian-constructed tunnels within the Qalamoun Mountains west of Damascus.
The strategic tunnels were identified by intelligence operations to contain missiles, warheads and their launching platforms. Battle damage assessments have not yet been released on mission objectives.
It's not too far-fetched to envision that IDF special forces will need to converge on the area, raid the tunnels and destroy them completely as strategic tunnels would contain strategic assets of the former regime such as WMD warheads for the missiles.

IDF armor and troops have crossed the defacto border (established in 1974) into Syria and will remain in this forward position until realities on the ground within Syria dictate otherwise.

DeleteHere is a rock solid fact. Watch any of the circulating videos recorded of the celebrations in downtown Damascus this morning and you'll see the city is nowhere near being or becoming a heap of ruins. That eventuality remains a future reality per Isaiah 17.

DeleteA key point to understand concerning Syria is that the Army was commanded by an Alawite officer corps, but the rank and file soldiers were and remain Sunni. This is why they abandoned the al-Assad regime as quickly as they did. Good chances now they will be absorbed into a new, all-Sunni military in Syria. They'll be the enemy of Lebanese Hezbollah and Iran and its proxy forces, perhaps even Iraq as well.

Israeli souces say the IDF have entered Syria proper, beyond the UNDOF zone, to create an in-depth buffer.
ReplyDeleteIn fact the discussion in Israel is that the vacuum created by the fall of the regime must be filled by Israel military power, so deeper the IDF goes into the Quneitra and Dara'a governorates to fill the vacuum before Islamists do so.
DeleteIn sum total IMO, Syria is currently about 10x more unstable than it was say, a month ago. Plenty of aggressive, ambitious and even scared stakeholders active in the area; several of whom have access to inventories of non-conventional weapons. It is a strategic imperative for Israel to destroy the newly abandoned regime military assets and infrastructure - however, that in turn will for sure be inflammatory to the new 'team' in Damascus. As has recently been discussed, that was the chapter that many related to President Trump (our 45th) as being in the type of Cyrus. Since he is about to become our 47th, I was led to read the 47th chapter of Isaiah. I will be spending some time with these passages these next few days, prayerfully. Having studied out Rev.18 several months ago, I have many cross references already in the margins of Is47, which lends weight and clarity to the urgency of this passage, in my opinion.

DeleteIsrael does not directly attack chemical weapons. They strike facilities which actionable intelligence indicates the presence of precursor chemicals, like difluoro, which is used to make sarin.

DeleteActually, no one outside of Israel's F-35I Adir pilots know the flight plan they followed. The entire air armada was undetected throughout the mission - they could have flown anywhere they chose and not necessarily in a straight line over Syria and Iraq. They could have struck Iran from every direction on the compass.

Hi Sean, I'm from the UK. To many people the world is falling apart, but I think for us believers who know prophecy, everything is falling into place.
ReplyDeleteBut what flabbergasts me and upsets me the most is how the evangelical church in my country is fast asleep as to what is happening in the world, especially in relation to Israel. I just can't understand how we're reading the same book! I don't doubt that they're my brothers and sisters in Christ, but the evil one has the veil over their eyes in relation to Israel and God''s purposes for the Jewish people. What's the church at large like in the US in relation to understanding Israel/prophecy?
I just pray that my church in the UK can be awakened to the reality of Bible prophecy and Israel. I often used to have a mindset that everything is going to get worse, and yes in the world it will get worse but that doesn't necessarily need to apply to the evangelical Church if there are equipped teachers

You're absolutely correct, things are not falling apart; they're falling into place. As I like to reckon, each prophetic domino that falls tips over the next in paving the road to His Millennial Kingdom.
In sum, the 'church' here in the states is also slumbering, but not quite to the same extent. We do have a growing number of congregations here who are on fire in the Holy Spirit and teaching, and others that simply don't teach that God-breathed prophecy is in a process of active, real-time fulfillment. Those congregational leaders are strangers to Him, either fallen away or "backsliden." We also pray for their awakening in Jesus Name.
All of the seven churches the LORD spoke of in the opening chapters of Revelation are present today. As Jesus said, some are cold, some lukewarm and some are hot. He will spew the lukewarm from His mouth - which is to say they'll not be taken in the Harpazo, but that will be a belated wake-up for them. (Matthew 25)
I'll pray for someone filled with His Spirit to rise up in the UK!

It's amazing that you write about praying that someone by filled with His Spirit to rise up in the UK. I think it's dawned on me that that person is me. I've been studying the teaching materials of Ariel Ministries since 2011 and have for many years wanted to go to Camp Shoshanah yet the enemy has got in saying I wouldn't be able to get to Keeseville NY on my own. Well I've booked it and am flying into JFK next summer. So excited at what the Lord is doing in my life, I can't wait to see Dr Fruchtenbaum again.
Also would ask for prayer as I'm single, an area of my life that I have struggled with profoundly. And you resort to worldly means for companionship, I was on this chatting app called Kik, and most people on there only want one thing but there was a 20 year old woman on there that stuck out with Hebrew letters, her name is Kaela Dazal. Turns out she's from Levahim and we get on like a house on fire. She's giving me updates and we genuinely have a good friendship even just by chat. The issue is her god is the IDF, she has another year to serve on the IDF but she is basically an atheist. She works in real estate in Beersheba. But I'm praying that at some point we might have the opportunity to meet after this war because I'm praying she comes to know Messiah and if that happens I think she might become my wife. I don't think that's too much to ask of the Lord, if we honour Him and the Jewish people, He will honour us. It's like a spiritual equivalent to the law of gravity, you bless the Jewish people and you will be blessed, and she's the most beautiful woman I've ever seen. So my question is how long till Israel has victory then we can see each other 😂. Bless you
Recently I noted here about doaing a Berean-like study of the southern elements of the Ezekiel 38-39 Magog confederation, Kuwsh and Put with Persia specifically.
ReplyDeleteIn this an element was discovered that I've not seen noted in any other studies or research on the topic. The situation in Syria at present piqued my attention to this item of discovery.
To wit:
Persia (Farsi-speaking Iran) is of mostly Shi'a Islam.
Kuwsh, (the primarily Cushitic-speaking Horn of Africa) is of Sunni Islam, as are the people of Put (Arabic-speaking North African countries).
The inter-Islamic schism between Sunni and Shi'a is a historical and present day casus belli as seen daily for the past 13 years in Syria.
But in Ez. 38 these southern people are united with Shi'a Iran and Sunni peoples of Caucasus Russia and Turkiye in their desire to conquer Israel and plunder the country completely.
To me this evokes an imminent and major inter-Islamic paradigm shift --nevermind that the LORD Himself will completely obliterate the invading confederation and send fire upon those who dwell safely in coastlands.
Or perhaps the overthrow of Iran's Twelvers leaves radical Sunnis in control? I don't know, but will watch Syria and Iraq for indications.

Isaiah 17:14 says, "Then behold, at eventide, trouble! And before the morning, he is no more. This is the portion of those who plunder us,
and the lot of those who rob us."
This hit me this morning. The suddenness is what strikes me.
I do think there's a correlation, but I'm not sure if its related to the peace and safety prior to Ez. 38/39 or mid-point of the 70th Week covenant among many. Possibly a dual prophecy?

Sean, this makes sense that whatever remnant remains in Gaza would lock arms with the coalition of subhumans now roaming freely in Syria, but I am struggling to understand how Hamas relocating to Syria fits into what appears to be a near fulfillment of Ps 83? Seems Hamas has been effectively destroyed, so I’m not understanding with this at all. Would Israel then fully retain all of the Gaza Strip again? Apologies, but trying to see how this does not disrupt the Ps 83 prophesy LD

DeleteThey are real. I know the area they're overflying because I grew up there. They come into the Jersey Shore (Monmouth and Ocean counties) from an unknown offshore platform.

DeleteThose I have observed exhibit the standard and required FAA port/starboard (red/green) navigation lights as well as forward oriented headlights.
These drone lights are designed to be seen by outside observers while airborne or on the ground as a navigation and safety necessity.
Israel (IAF and Navy) continued striking former regime military targets in Tartus and Latakia this morning.
ReplyDeleteIn photos of Tartus navy base I noticed the Osa II-class missile ships were sunk, but the four SS-N-2 Styx missile launchers of each ship were intact and still above water. Hope the IAF finished them off today before the missile are removed.

FYI today's edition of the WSJ reports that the Trump transition team is deliberating on several options ("Maximum Pressure 2.o") to prevent Iran getting a nuclear weapon, including military strikes and/or supporting Israeli strikes. Israel is also planning for the same scenario in the aftermath of the military neutralization of Syria.

The IAF and INS completely destroyed five (5) Osa-II class missile ships at Tartus north pier, and three (3) more at Baniyas port. That's 100% of the eight (8) Osa-II's in the Syrian Arab Navy (SAN).

ReplyDeleteOn Israeli television yesterday Biden's National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan was forced to admit on Israeli TV that HAMAS has not released a single name of any hostage to be released as part of a negotiated ceasefire "deal" between itself, Egypt, the US and Israel. Not even one name.
Major Global Media outlets have been claiming exactly the opposite for the past week, meaning they have been lying to all concerned parties, especially the Israeli relatives of the hostages from the get-go.
IDF reports the rockets launched by HAMAS yesterday were about 150 feet from a warehouse containing aid for Gaza's civilian population.

The emergent Sunni Jihadist regime in Damascus, Syria has announced that it will rule under Sharia Law; there will be morality police under the control of clerics as an enforcement mechanism.

It's important to study the other areas of doctrine- Bibliology, Theology Proper, Christology, Pneumatology, Angelology, Satanology, Demonology, Anthropology, Harmatiology, Soteriology, Israelology, Ecclesiology and Personal Eschatology.

For four (4) zero-dark thirty hours this morning (Sunday, 15 Dec) the IAF launched 52 strikes against former regime military targets in Qalamoun Mts, Damascus, Hama, Homs and Dara'a.
ReplyDeleteThe majority of the airstrikes were on underground ballistic missile tunnels. In this past week Israel has conducted 450+ strikes of this type in Syria, fully ignoring the new jihadist regime's demand of "no more airstrikes."
The jihadist regime has also informed the Kurds of northeast Syria (SDF under US/Coalition protection) that they "will be part of the new Syria and live under Sharia law."
Bro. Sean; Well, that is not going to be well received by the Kurds - who are very experienced and capable fighters (as any surviving ISIS can attest). They (Kurds) also I believe, have a very solid and active military relationship with Israel.
DeleteIn looking at the prophetic future boundaries of Israel, it is noteworthy that the area of Syria northeast of the Euphrates seems to be among the most consistently controlled (and comparatively stable) territory of that now former country.
The current jihadist (HTS etc.) crowd must be absolutely infuriated with the IDF continuing to destroy Assad-Hezbollah-Iranian equipment and facilities. With the imminent changing of the guard in Washington, this latest bunch of fanatics will quickly realise that their planned 'charm offensive' will be largely ineffective. ReplyDeleteEarly this morning the IAF struck remnant Syrian air defense sites and surface-to-surface missile depots in the Tartus area.
ReplyDeleteThere was an apparent direct hit on one depot as that detonation was referred to as an "earthquake bomb." Indeed it appears on videos taken from different angles as a massive orange-colored mushroom cloud.
The detonation also registered as a Richter 3+ seismic event at a Turkish station 500 miles away.
Israel is determined to leave nothing of former regime military hardware to the jihadists now controlling Syria.
Israel will soon launch powerful strikes against Houthi targets in Yemen.
